Overview

“This work is not a tale of triumph or an embrace of the dark,
It’s a reminder, a tribute—a hope.”

Julio Cesar Hererra

Asterisk

Roles: Designer, Photographer, Project Manager

Asterisk is my first photobook as well as the first proper display of my photography since I started shooting in 2018.

Featuring 48 original photos from myself, as well as a foreword by my brother Julio Cesar Herrera; the book is a contemplative piece that follows my journey through life over the past few years. It explores themes of isolation, loneliness, and personal spirituality in the context of the modern world. Littered with subliminal messaging these photos give viewers a deeper look into my mind as well as a world they’re part of but may be overlooking.

Akin to the subject matter, the book title “Asterisk” serves as a reminder that there’s always more information beyond the surface. So as you explore the contents of the project my hopes are that you as the viewer decide to look further than what’s been given, even if it seems mundane.

Throughout the span of this project I worked as, the designer; creating mock ups and draft versions of what the book should/could look like, the photographer; producing the images used within the book, & the project manager; often times having to coordinate collaboration with other artists and vendors for drafts and critiques, the project truly was a group effort.

Asterisk is available for sale in the webshop.
